Utopia de Thomas Moro - A digital edition is a research project developed by Inmaculada Ureña Asensio as part of her thesis dissertation “title”, supervised by Dr. Eugenio M. Olivares Merino at the Universidad de Jaén. This work was funded by the Ministry under a FPU scholarship [FPU19/01014]. This project was also framed within the national project “Thomas More and Spain: ideological and textual construction (16th and 17th centuries)” [THOME].
The digital edition presents Gerónimo de Medinilla’s 1637 translation of Thomas More’s Utopia, Utopia de Thomas Moro, along with three texts: a modernization of the said translation, the 1518 March Latin text and the 1551 English rendering by Ralph Robinson. The four texts have been aligned and can be read in parallel to encourage a comparative study. Medinilla’s translation only included Book II so prefatory letters and Book I are not included in the present edition. The edition counts with a critical apparatus analyzing textual characteristics and accounting the differences between the first, second and third editions of Utopia de Thomas Moro.
